Who We Are?

Our Mission

The Lawrenceville Fire Company strives to minimize loss of life and property to the effects of fire and other associated perils with skill, care, and compassion. We help to maintain a safe community through quality public education, fire and rescue services, and fire prevention.

Our Station

Located on Phillips Avenue in the Village of Lawrenceville, the station was originally constructed in 1916 and has undergone several renovations and expansions. The station currently houses Rescue 23, Telesqurt 23, Tower 23, Special Services 23, Brush 23, and Utility 23. The building contains a five bay engine room, a radio room, a break room, a workshop, a fully equipped physical fitness room, a ten bed bunk room, a game room with kitchen, a meeting room, four offices, restrooms, and a hall with a kitchen.

The public is welcome to visit the station at anytime. Firefighters are on duty from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monthly meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and training is held every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Please stop by for a tour.

Our History

In 1915, the Lawrenceville Fire Company was organized by a group of citizens of this community in order to protect lives and property from fire. The first meetings of the Lawrenceville Fire Company were held at Applegate’s. On May 3rd the first officers and trustees were elected.

The first officers elected were:

A.G. Hullfish – President
Martin E. Carroll – Vice President
George Blake – Secretary
Richard W. Cook – Treasurer
Urias Pierson – Chief

The first trustees elected were:

James E. Hullfish
Herman Rellstab
F.W. Kafer
Charles Scott

At a special meeting held March, 17th, a lot was purchased in Phillips Avenue for $200.00. On June 14th, it was voted to procure a certificate of Incorporation, and by July 9th a drive was started to raise a fund of $3,000.00 to build a suitable building. On September 15th of that year, an agreement was signed with the building contractor to proceed with the work. Opening night was on January 31st, 1916, and the first meeting was held in the new quarters on February 14th, 1916.

In the last eighty-five years the fire company has purchased the lots in the rear and the side of the original property and has added six additions to the building.

One of the hand-drawn chemical truck wagons from the Lawrenceville Prep School

In 1915, the Lawrenceville School granted the use of their equipment, until such time as the fire company was able to purchase their own. This equipment consisted of two hand-drawn hose carts, three hand-drawn chemical truck wagons, and one hand or horse drawn wooden ladder truck. This offer was gladly accepted and plans were made to obtain our own motorized apparatus, beginning with the purchase of a 1914 Peerless automobile.

An 1897 horse-drawn Silsby steam pumper was bought from Newton, Pennsylvania Fire Company and the 600 g.p.m. pump was removed and installed on the Peerless chassis by the members and the body work was fabricated by Henry Benders Wheel Wright Shop. Finally, during the year 1918, we had our first complete motorized apparatus.
